Don’t Give in to “Easy”

It’s easy to put things off.

It’s easy to think, “I just don’t want to make the effort,” leaving you stuck in the same situation.

Maybe you have just accepted that this is the new size of you.

But there is a pair of skinny jeans or a favorite dress in your closet that is a constant reminder of what you once were.

Or a photograph from days long gone, where you really looked your best.

I remember trying on a pair of jeans of mine and wondering how I ever got my legs in to them.

They are loose on me now.

Sometimes we can never get back to the size we once were, and that’s okay. But we can get close. Closer than we are now.

The real issue with “yo-yo” dieting – lose some, gain more – occurs when we don’t effectively deal with insulin resistance. That comes from restricting calories without changing the quality of food. Like using Slim Fast to diet: you are essentially starving yourself and drinking a sugary liquid. Insulin is still being heavily released, so insulin resistance continues.

Insulin resistance is when our cells stop responding to insulin, and refuse to take it in to reduce our blood glucose. Like a bully, the pancreas just sends out more. Insulin resistance increases as we age and our hormones change through the phases of menopause. It also increases when we don’t sleep well, are stressed in life and when we try to “workout” the way we did when we were younger. Combine that all together and you have the perfect recipe for belly fat. 😱

When we remove carbs, eat within an 9 -10 hour window and fuel on meat & healthy fats, our bodies return to their best functioning mode. Less insulin is released, so the body is able to burn fat for energy needs. The cells are no longer bombarded, so they are more willing to take any excess insulin in.
