I hear from many clients leading up to the holidays about their concerns for how they will cope with all of the temptations they are bound to encounter. As a carb addict myself, I know full good and well that just one bite is enough to send me on a carb bender. (Watch my video for a perfect example)
Have no fear, I’ve got you covered with a tried and true holiday strategy!
If you are the type of person who can ignore cookies and chocolate in your house until they go stale or someone else eats them, then let me just wish you a Merry Christmas and you can move on.
If however, those things tend to “call to you” until you eat them all gone, then you will definitely want to try these tips:
You will be doing a kitchen purge the day after the holiday. Just accept this as fact and save yourself loads of money and only buy what you absolutely need so nothing goes to waste. Can your guests bring the dessert? Do you really need more than one? Does the house need to be littered with festive candy?
Tap into your super-powers and protect yourself and home from sugar invaders. Swat sweet gifts away to the office, a neighbor, take them to a party or drop them at a food bank. It’s the thought that counts but you don’t have to eat it.
Modify your recipes to make them Meaty Low Carb friendly. Simply Google “keto” + whatever the food and I can guarantee that some foodie out there has a recipe. A keto recipe will be low carb, no grains and with healthy fats. You can also substitute Swerve Confectioners Sugar (erythritol), stevia, xylitol or monk fruit in your recipes. #ad (See some recipe ideas in the Resource Library)
If you’re heading to a Christmas party, eat before you go and bring something you could eat. Spend your time mingling and ignore the food. Enjoy a low carb alcoholic drink or make a mock one with some sparkling water and a slice of lemon or lime.
Be that person who won’t take leftovers. If it’s your party, push them on your guests and don’t take no for an answer, and be prepared with portable containers that you won’t miss. If you’re somewhere else, refuse their offers and silently leave any sweet gift you brought to unload.
Remember the 80/20 rule. Make 100% effort to sticking to Meaty Low Carb eating over the holidays, but realize that if you’re actually doing it 80% of the time, that’s okay, too. Pick the treat that means the most to you and savor every bite. Give it your full attention and note how you feel after. Was it too sweet? Did it leave an aftertaste? How was your digestion? Did you sleep okay? Did your hot flashes return? Use this info to make an informed decision next time.
Don’t forget your self care. With all the hustle and bustle, remember it’s important to also take time for you. Start and end each day in the glow of your Christmas tree. Think about all that is good in your life, the people who mean the most to you and all the Christmas memories you’ve ever made.
