Playful, Deliberate Movements

Did you ever play β€œhot lava” as a kid?⁣
⁣
You know, the floor is covered in hot lava and you need to get from A to B without touching the floor? Carpet or rugs were safe and you turned into a little ninja navigating from one room to the next.⁣
⁣
Or was that just me? πŸ€”β£
⁣
This kind of playful, deliberate movement (for us) goes back to our primal roots as our DNA remembers our skillful hunts in the Savannah, stalking prey and navigating the difficult terrain.⁣
⁣
Carefully placed movement, even if it’s not shimmying along the kitchen counter, works more muscles than you would, if say, you were trudging along on the elliptical, treadmill or along the city streets.⁣
⁣
As you can imagine, our primal ancestors needed to constantly watch their step to avoid a snake bite, or a hole that might snap their ankle. A bad infection would be the death of them and being unable to hunt, well, that was not an option.⁣
⁣
YOU need to be careful too, but challenge yourself (and your amazing feet) by strolling out in nature on a hike or on the beach, where you need to maintain your balance, dexterity and alertness.⁣
⁣
Or make your own playful game at home by stepping or hopping over a required amount of floor tiles, double-stepping the stairs or crab-walking down the hallway.⁣
⁣
Your body will thank you and you’ll have fun, too.⁣
