Am I shouting out commands of dos and don’ts and running you through a bunch of drills like a sergeant? Am I scrutinizing your every flaw of body and character like some high end modeling agent? Am I dictating and micromanaging every calorie you can eat or burn? 😂🤣 Not even close! Coaching sessions are primarily designed by YOU! A health coach holds a safe space, free of judgment and agenda, for the client to explore the past, present and future and the ways they impact their life and health. My clients are seeking health, vitality and freedom from food addictions. They aren’t satisfied with how they were doing on their own, and are inviting a new set of eyes to help them uncover new ways to succeed. We all have our go to friend that we can talk with when issues arrive. However a health coach comes unbiased to our stories, focused solely on your journey without a vested concern on how changes in YOUR life affect her or him. An example: “Oh, if Sally quits drinking for her health, she might stop joining me at the pub on Fridays. “ That might stop her from sharing something she’s learned about alcohol or being truthful about signs of addiction or things getting out of hand. Fit into your skinniest, skinny jeans! 👖🎉 . One time when I was home in Oregon, I grabbed a pre-packed suitcase of winter clothes to bring back to Ireland. I should’ve looked closer at the inventory. It contained my 3 skinniest pairs of Rock Revival jeans, which I hadn’t been able to wear since my menopausal weight gain started. (See my website for THAT story.) Alas, my favorite 2 pairs were left behind in a drawer. 😢 I hauled the 3 unworn pairs from apartment to apartment. I tried them on just before the move to Spain and couldn’t get them up past my thighs. Had I really worn these years ago?! One pair was a little larger and I actually got them on, but that’s about it. I thought about getting rid of them but I remember how much joy it brought me to buy designer jeans for the first time EVER. I remember the young salesgirl too when she asked for my size and when I told her, she said, “ No, no, you’re smaller than THAT.” So, sweet. Those days were gone. I made do the last couple years by rotating 2 pairs of “roomier” American Eagle jeans. Based on recent successes with some shorts, today I pulled those skinny jeans out of the closet and tried them on. They fit! I mean like I could wear them in public kind of fit. It’s just a shame that it’s shorts weather now 😎 and my daughter would probably point out that they’re no longer in style. I don’t care. I’m also not at all worried that this is just a phase of the “yo-yo”. I have found what works for me – eating hearty, moving daily, sleeping blissfully and my mind at ease. I have the power to create that lifestyle and keep it going, because it’s what I want and deserve. It’s an amazing feeling when you harness that power. Don’t give up on yourself or your skinny jeans, and don’t believe that menopause means you’re destined for a muffin top. I used to be a smoker. When I got married and was looking ahead to getting pregnant, I knew it was time to quit. This was way back in the day when I could smoke at work, in bars, restaurants, et al. I paid $40 and went to a stop smoking seminar which used hypnotherapy on our group. We were enlisting our subconsciouses to fight the urges before we were even aware we had them. They would say, “Gee that’s dumb. Why would you even want to smoke? It makes everything stink!” And we taught ourselves to gag and cough when we smelled smoke. It worked. I never smoked again. One of the reasons I love carnivore and carnivore-ish WOE (ways of eating) is that the effect is quite similar to when I stopped smoking. I’m not on eggshells watching out for triggers. I don’t obsess about food, sweets, snacks, meals… My subconscious is calm and on my side, rather than working against me. I forget that a carb monster even lives inside me. It’s so freeing. I know that I can never give in to temptation and that’s okay. Temptation only occurs when I go looking for it, which barely interests me anymore. Importantly, temptation has stopped looking for me. Because we all need more kitchen gadgets… I have joined the world as an air fryer owner! I didn’t put must research in to it, I confess, just bought the largest one my local store had. My first cooking attempt was inspired from @mariaemmerich and the Carnivore Cookbook. Basically my usual burger (ground beef AND pork), wrapped around a Babybel cheese, wrapped in bacon. Yum! My bacon slices didn’t want to separate from each other, I didn’t cook the first two long enough and I can’t plug the air fryer in close enough to the overhead fan to deal with the smoke. Other than THAT, it was a great success! Delicious, hearty and super filling. 👍🏻👍🏻 I emptied the drippings through a paper towel into a jar so I’m ready if I need some bacon flavored lard for cooking. Win win. Any experienced air fryer chefs out there have any tips for a newbie? Leave your comments below. I think its going to be great to use with fairly simple cleanup and not much “scent of cooked food” in the house (we are not all fans here 😜). Who is my ideal client? 🤔 Easily, it would be amazing people like these – people who enjoy life, good food, good friends, great craic – yet have a variety of health issues that can sometimes get in the way. Maybe it’s back pain, a bad hip, stiff knees, allergies or frequent migraines. Many are taking medications for high blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid, high cholesterol or dealing with some chronic pain. Perhaps they’ve put on some weight in the middle, and resigned themselves to believe it was just due to menopause, aging or low testosterone. Some may suffer from acid reflux, swelling in their feet or legs, low blood sugar, asthma or fatigue. I filled prescriptions and did medical records for nearly 20 years and it’s amazing the laundry list of medications some people are on. Most are given to provide some relief for a SYMPTOM but very few are prescribed to actually cure a CAUSE. And often they have some side effect that you will undoubtedly be given ANOTHER med to deal with it. Thousands and thousands of people all over the world are discovering that with simple changes to their eating and lifestyle habits, their bodies are healing themselves. I’m not talking about switching to a liquid diet, or rabbit food or putting in 5 days a week at the gym. We were not designed to live or thrive like that. I am talking about eating until you are full, whenever you are hungry, moving at an easy pace, relaxing when you need to and having the energy to go out and enjoy the life you want to live. It really isn’t difficult and once you get a taste of it, you’ll wonder why you didn’t do it SOONER. And you’ll NEVER want to go back to the way you felt before. Sometimes we want BIG changes in our lives. We secretly hope that 💥poof💥 the change will just magically happen. We are rather disappointed after a day or two of effort if the scale hasn’t budged or that bikini doesn’t fit yet. In my coaching, I’m less concerned about those things, and certainly not after just a few days. How long did it take to gain those 15 pounds? How many doctor visits have you had to discuss health concerns? How many prescriptions or dose increases have been made? How many diet or exercise plans have you tried? The journey to poor health has taken a long time and likely for many years went unnoticed. To reverse that damage, to develop new habits and to free yourself from addictions and toxins takes time. That’s me in an a-ha moment. I’ve had many over the years on my health journey. I learned about grains and gluten long ago, how damaging they are to the body: leaky gut, autoimmune issues, allergies, inflammation, malabsorption. Grains are plants. So are vegetables, beans nuts, seeds and fruit. The damage is due to their natural defenses. Their built in protection. See, they don’t want to be eaten. Well, fruit wants to be eaten on it’s own terms. They want to live and reproduce, and not be eaten by insects, animals or us. We could handle a bit of their poisons back in the day. Modern franken-agriculture has had its natural defenses genetically amped to mega proportions – pesticides and Round-up resistant. We aren’t tolerating THAT. Add it to the causes of our modern day illnesses, and it’s no wonder we aren’t getting healthy on all those servings of fruits and veg. Although they are chock full of nutrition, we can’t ABSORB the nutrition, and further they hinder absorption of the other foods on our plate, too! Not good bang for your buck! I love chocolate. Well, maybe I have fallen out of love a bit. I have always enjoyed 2 squares of 85% or higher dark chocolate, usually after my first meal of the day (=lunch). The tale is that I found myself eating the Moser Roth on the train on day 1 of traveling, fully aware that I was taking slow and tiny bites without even thinking. Good job me! Later that week, with traveling, poor hotel sleep, pubs, and things creeping back in to my diet, like wine, cider, potato chips, desserts, gf bread… I call this “going on the beer”, I bought the Cadbury bar. It’s bigger than the other, 45g vs 25g. Sugar is the FIRST ingredient vs the third (RED flag right there). Carb content was 27g vs 4.6g. Additionally, I should’ve skipped it because it said it MAY contain wheat. The worst part about it was that I ate the entire thing in less than 50 steps. That is a prime sugar addict. I can easily gain 8 pounds in a week when I make choices like this, because sugar burners retain a LOT of water. Fortunately, I can easily get back on track from this because my body prefers to run on ketones so the sugar withdrawal is short lived. I feel awful physically when I’m on such a bender but I don’t beat myself up over it. It happens far less often than it used to, and I’m amazed how slippery the slope can be. Those situations inevitably pop up and it’s important to make decisions free of guilt. However, if you feel you’ve slipped too far and need a lifeline, a health coach can help. Hello! My website is back up and running, so I thought this would be a great time to introduce myself. I’m Cherie Ó – think of Steve Perry singing "Oh Sherry", then flip it. I am a Certified Primal Health Coach. My health journey, and helping friends and family on theirs, began long before I enrolled in that program. I’m just official now. I spent most of the last 20 years working as a pharmacy technician, watching aging customers health deteriorate as more medications were added to their regime, and their lifestyles continued to go unaddressed. Helping them was out of my scope of practice. As a Health Coach, I can finally speak up. We are all very much aware that we have a health and obesity crisis across the globe. We’ve been given misleading advice everywhere we turn, and though we try our best to follow it, it isn’t working. WE are not flawed, the ADVICE is. They say insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results. Let’s try something different. Something so simple and logical, that it has been overlooked for years. No one diet is for everyone. We metabolize food best when our bodies are functioning as they were designed to do. Inflammation, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, allergies, depression, autoimmunity – these are signs that the body has gone rogue. That’s when a Health Coach can help.
